30

David and I both celebrated the big 3-0 this week! Our birthdays are only 2 days apart and we had a wonderful time celebrating! We decided to head up for a little R&R in the mountains. We both had some time off of work so we thought we'd enjoy a nice night away, it was fantastic!

I got David a new fishing pole for his birthday and he had a chance to test it out once we got into town. He caught a nice rainbow trout within the first few minutes, I think the new rod is a keeper! It was soooo cold fishing, his pole iced over in less than 10 minutes!
We thought turning 30 deserved something a little nicer than your standard hotel, so we made reservations at a gloriously luxurious B&B. It was hands down the nicest place I've ever stayed. I've shot a few weddings here before and I've always wanted to just stay as a guest and I'm so glad we did! Our room had a private balcony w/ a hot tub, heated floors, a Tempurpedic bed, a walk through shower, fireplace and the best breakfast either of us had eaten in a while. Heavenly!

 Birthday breakfast...yum!

We spent a little time in town and headed into a Christmas store on Main St. Every year David and I pick out a new ornament for our Christmas tree. We try to find an ornament that represents the year we've had, or at least highlights one big aspect from the year. Last year we picked out a cute little fisherman bear in Alaska since Alaska was most definitely the highlight of 2011 for us. This year was hard. We went through a gut wrenching ordeal and we wanted to find something that would help us remember what happened without making us sad every year we decorate our tree. While we were in the Christmas store, we found this little gem. I think it's perfect.
To be honest, I'm really pretty excited to be 30. Every year that goes by, I feel a deeper sense of contentment with life and a greater appreciation for all God has blessed me with. Despite all the junk we've been through, I'm infinitely more happy at 30 than I was at 20. I can only hope that trend continues into my 40s, 50s and beyond! I feel a beautiful sense of peace about where we're at and where we're heading. Here's to hoping 30 will be our best year yet! :)

Hi friends! Here you'll find my chronicles of finding my way through 3+ years of infertility, decorating and settling into our new home, being a loving wife, running a photography business and probably pictures from trips around Colorado. Through it all I follow hard after Jesus and try my hardest to stay hopeful, humble and grateful for this beautiful life!
